Red light therapy belongs to a class of treatment in which light within a specific wavelength is used to help the body heal. Think of it as a gentle nudge for the body to kick into self-healing mode.

While there is still a divide among doctors and scientists about the extent of the benefits that red light therapy provides to people with certain ailments, it is generally agreed that the use of red and infrared light therapy leads to improvements in patients’ health conditions.

To initiate red light therapy, medical-grade LED lights are used to deliver concentrated and specific wavelengths of light, 660 and 850 nanometers, to the body. Studies show that the cells in the human body can absorb specific wavelengths of light (like near-infrared light) and use them to stimulate the production of ATP (the energy-carrying molecule in cells) in the mitochondria (the energy center of the cell).

Growing up on a farm in rural Ontario, Dr Gena learned to appreciate good chiropractic care at a young age as her family would often need a little help healing from minor injuries related to the work required of farming as well as being an active child in sports. Graduating from CMCC in 2006 she continued acquiring skills such as Graston technique, Active Release Techniques, and Medical Acupuncture to build treatment plans that are individualized and tailored to the patients needs. She is very comfortable treating patients of all ages, including infants. She is experienced in treating pregnant individuals, athletes of all levels and patients wanting to reach optimal wellness. She has been treating spine pain (acute and chronic), sports injuries (sprains and strains), TMJ dysfunction and extremity issues (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles) for 19 years now in Calgary. When she is not in the clinic, she is happily trying to keep up with her 3 children who are ski racers with the Banff Alpine Racers and cycling and sailing enthusiasts in the summer months.

Lindsay Okabe graduated from Mount Royal University with a 2200 hour Massage Therapy Diploma in 2023. Having experienced the benefits of massage therapy personally after an ankle injury, she has a passion for helping people using a method from which she found great relief.
